Maldhari Rural Action Group

Governance

Pastoralists and marginalized communities often find themselves excluded from the policy-making, implementation, and decision-making processes at all levels. This lack of representation results in these policies having detrimental effects on their lives.

We firmly advocate for a decentralized, transparent, accountable, and participatory decision-making approach that is sensitive to the needs of the marginalized and impoverished.

MARAG takes proactive measures to amplify the voices of these communities, ensuring their recognition and acknowledgment. We empower pastoralists and other marginalized groups by enhancing their capacities, and we foster and support alliances that span from grassroots to global levels. Consequently, MARAG has cultivated a dedicated cadre of youth, women, and children who now volunteer to advance and safeguard the rights of pastoralists and other marginalized actors.

MARAG has provided support to the following alliances:

  1. Maldhari Vikas Sangathan
  2. Maldhari Mahila Sangathan

Through these alliance, MARAG has an outreach to:

Members 24233
Cadre 1000
Leaders 360
Volunteers 2167
Organizations in alliance 4

All of these alliances have achieved success in addressing the concerns of these communities by:

  • Empowering the communities to tackle their issues autonomously.
  • Collaborating with the government to jointly implement relevant government regulations, programs, acts, and policies.
  • Engaging in dialogues with the government to introduce new policies and provisions when necessary.
  • Working in partnership with other networks, alliances, and civil societies to amplify their impact and effect positive change.
